The oasis of Tigmart, located in the commune of Asrir, Guelmim province, about 10 kilometers from the city of Guelmim, is one of the most remarkable oases in southern Morocco. Renowned for its natural beauty and palm groves, it attracts visitors from Morocco and elsewhere, thanks to the guesthouses run by the inhabitants of the oasis.
The oasis is home to thermal springs and has suffered several fires that have seriously affected its vegetation. Currently, revitalization programs are underway, including the planting of young palm trees as well as fruit trees such as pomegranate, olive and fig.
The Tigmart oasis extends along the Oued Noun, a wadi that is often dry from late spring to winter, in the vicinity of the city of Guelmim. It is made up of several villages, including Aït Bako, Taourirt and Asrir, and is supplied with water from the mountains via the Oued Noun and a network of underground canals (khettaras).
The oasis fields, surrounded by earth walls and shaded by palm trees, are a main feature of Tigmart, where vegetables are grown in the spring. Visitors can also discover some khettaras, a waterfall located in the abandoned village of Fask, as well as sites with ancient rock engravings.
