Signing of a convention between the Council of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region and the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to strengthen health and medical services for the citizens of the region, for a total amount of 443 million dirhams.
On the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the glorious Green March, the signing of the convention took place at the headquarters of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region on the morning of Monday, November 6, 2023. This convention was signed by Ms. Mbarka Bouaida, President of the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council, Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, and Mr. Mohammed Najem Abhai, Wali of the region and Governor of Guelmim province, in the presence of the Regional Director of Health, as well as representatives from the National Public Equipment Agency and the Order of Physicians.
The signing of this convention, with a total budget of 443 million dirhams, aims to ensure equitable and adequate health services for optimal coverage of the medical care network, health infrastructures, and medical personnel in the region.
This convention includes 14 projects aimed at comprehensively strengthening the health sector, as part of the initiatives of the State-Region contract and the regional development program 2022-2027 for the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. The projects include:
The signing of this convention, with a total budget of 443 million dirhams
- The construction of local hospitals to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure in territorial communities with high potential for urban development, with a budget of 200 million dirhams.
- The enhancement of equipment for the region’s health centers, costing 50 million dirhams, through the acquisition of medical-technical and biomedical equipment, including medical devices such as scanners, MRIs, radiology equipment, advanced monitoring devices, and more. A budget of 50 million dirhams has been allocated to address the shortage of medical personnel through contracts with qualified doctors and nurses, as well as the construction of functional housing for this staff, amounting to 20 million dirhams.
- The creation and equipping of four “Youth Health Spaces” centers in the region’s four provinces, with a budget of 20 million dirhams to improve the quality of local services for youth health. The creation and equipping of a regional addiction center in Guelmim, with a budget of 7 million dirhams, to care for individuals struggling with addictions to substances or deviant behaviors.
- Strengthening the development of medical caravans and campaigns to improve access to primary healthcare and reduce geographical disparities that hinder access to care services, with a dedicated budget of 30 million dirhams. The development of community health by focusing on strengthening infrastructure, equipment, and human resources at the municipal level, with a budget of 10 million dirhams.
- The creation and equipping of two reproductive health reference centers, costing 14 million dirhams, to provide integrated and comprehensive healthcare services to women at all stages of their lives. The creation and equipping of a University Medical Center in Guelmim, costing 3 million dirhams, to provide healthcare services to university students and staff.
- The creation and equipping of two emergency medical units in the communes of Taghjijt and Tioughza, costing 6 million dirhams, aimed at providing emergency medical care. The development and equipping of a psychiatric service at the Guelmim Regional Hospital (CHR) to ensure accessibility to psychiatric care for the region’s population, at a cost of 3 million dirhams. Upgrading the emergency services in Tan Tan and strengthening the capacity of the Hassan II Provincial Hospital in Tan Tan to provide quality care, costing 20 million dirhams.
- The creation and equipping of primary healthcare facilities in the communes of Al Mahbes, Aouint Lahna, Anfeg, and the city of Tan Tan, with a budget of 10 million dirhams.
This agreement is aimed at transforming the healthcare landscape in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region and addressing the shortage of medical specialists needed by citizens. In this context, Ms. Mbarka Bouaida welcomed the signing of this agreement, which reflects the efforts made to improve healthcare in the region, highlighting the importance of these projects in achieving sustainable health development and improving the quality of medical services provided to citizens.
