As part of ongoing efforts to secure new water resources in the face of climate and environmental challenges, the seawater desalination project at Plage Blanche stands out as one of the major initiatives in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. This project aims to mobilize the necessary water resources to irrigate approximately 3,000 hectares of agricultural land in the region, thereby helping to support farmers and increase agricultural production.
The project also seeks to provide drinking water to residents, enhancing the sustainability of water resources and enabling the implementation of an integrated development strategy for the region. Through this project, the focus is on improving farmers’ incomes by cultivating high-value-added products, which constitutes a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development at the local level.
The project is being carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, the regional council, and the private sector, with an estimated cost of 742 million dirhams. This project is part of the region’s commitment to developing hydraulic infrastructure and ensuring sufficient water resources to sustain agricultural activity and support the economic growth of the region.
