Global leading companies are competing to develop large-scale projects in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, including the Danish company “CIP,” the French “TotalEren,” and “CWP.”
Mbaraka Bouaida, president of the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council, announced during the Morocco-France Economic Days, organized by the Morocco Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the creation of a technological and industrial platform called “GON H2 Valley.”
The president aims to make the region a national leader in the medium term and one of the global pioneers in hydrogen production through this platform.
The platform will focus on four axes: research and development, information and innovation, industry, and key clients. According to Mbaraka Bouaida, the goal is to design a specific model for the region that integrates training, research and development, as well as technical innovation for public and industrial services.
This platform aims to develop a true integrated economic system around green technologies, making it attractive for African entrepreneurs, investors, and talents, leveraging the region’s geographical position near Europe and its potential for hydrogen production. The platform is also committed to providing open data to industries, investors, and researchers.
Many investors from the public and private sectors in the renewable energy field have expressed their interest and confidence in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, which has all the necessary elements to design this green hydrogen ecosystem that brings together all stakeholders and operators.
It is noteworthy that King Mohammed VI presided over a working meeting dedicated to green hydrogen on November 22, 2022, during which he instructed the various parties present, including the ministries of Interior, Economy, Energy Transition, as well as the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water, to develop “Morocco’s offer” regarding green hydrogen.
