On Monday, October 7, 2024, the ordinary session of the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council for October was held in the city of Guelmim. The session was chaired by Ms. Mbarka Bouaida, President of the Council, in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Najem Abhay, Wali of the region, representatives of the provinces, officials from relevant external services, and council members.
During this session, the council discussed 12 agenda items, including the approval of the regional budget for 2025, along with the study and approval of several agreements aimed at fostering regional development.
In the water sector, the council approved an agreement to improve the supply of drinking water in rural areas. Another agreement was also approved for flood protection, focusing on updating studies and establishing proactive intervention plans.
In the energy sector, the council approved an agreement for the development of the regional energy efficiency and decarbonization plan, aiming to enhance energy efficiency and reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
In the fisheries sector, two agreements were approved for the construction and equipment of fish markets in the port of Sidi Ifni and the commune of Tan-Tan, with the goal of improving infrastructure for seafood marketing.
In the higher education sector, the council approved two agreements to support students from the region, as well as to promote scientific research and innovation. Additionally, an amendment to an agreement for the development of the Institute of Mining in the commune of Assa was approved.
In the handicrafts sector, two agreements were approved; the first focuses on training young people in traditional crafts, while the second aims to preserve traditional skills and pass them on to future generations in collaboration with UNESCO.
As part of efforts to enhance the region’s appeal and stimulate investment, the council approved an agreement aimed at improving the region’s territorial offering and strengthening its position as an investment destination.
