The province of Guelmim is located in the northwest of the region, covering an area of 10,783 square kilometers. It is divided into 20 communes, including 2 urban ones. The population of the province is 187,808 inhabitants, with a density of 16.5 inhabitants/km², the majority being urban inhabitants. The city of Guelmim is the largest city in the province.
The main economic activities of this province revolve mainly around agriculture and tourism. In terms of agriculture, the province is distinguished by the production of market garden crops (cereals, fodder and vegetable crops) and the production of trees (olive trees, almond trees and date palms).
The tourism sector is also growing, with many investment projects in this area. The oases of Taghjijt, Timoulait, and Tighmert, the thermal springs of Abaïno and Lalla Malouka, the white beach, as well as the river and the kasbah of Emtid, constitute many tourist treasures that reinforce the attractiveness of the province. In addition, other activities related to the mining sector, such as iron, copper, lead, as well as traditional crafts such as jewelry, sewing and textiles, are also present.
