On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the King and People’s Revolution, the Wali of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, Mohamed Najem Abhay, and the President of the Regional Council, Mbarka Bouaida, inaugurated and launched several significant development projects in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The event took place in the presence of elected officials, parliamentarians, external service representatives, and civil and military figures. These projects aim to strengthen infrastructure, sports, education, culture, and the economy, reflecting the region’s strategic vision for achieving integrated and sustainable development.
As part of efforts to enhance and expand the educational offering in the region, the rehabilitation and equipping of the Preparatory Classes Center under the Provincial Directorate of Guelmim was inaugurated, with a total cost of 2.58 million dirhams. A project to build four local sports fields (type E) in Guelmim was also launched, with a budget of 6.5 million dirhams. This initiative aims to promote sports by creating local fields and contribute to the development of sports, particularly among young men and women.
Additionally, work began on the installation of a treated wastewater evacuation canal in the city of Guelmim, with a total cost of 12.3 million dirhams. The project aims to reduce pressure on conventional water resources and increase the use of treated wastewater. The construction of a model commercial center and an underground parking lot in Guelmim, costing 45 million dirhams, was also launched. The project covers an area of 2,790.89 square meters and includes 116 shops and 206 parking spaces.
In the province of Assa-Zag, a visit was made to the “Tarourast” dam, which cost 128.12 million dirhams, and the construction of the “Boulguir” dam (costing 219.9 million dirhams) and the “Ouina Lahna” dam (costing 43 million dirhams) was initiated.
The construction and equipping of the Mining Institute in the commune of Assa has been initiated, with a budget of 69.84 million dirhams, covering an area of 15,513 square meters. This project aims to develop and qualify the region’s human resources by providing technical professionals in energy and mining sectors.
In the commune of Al-Mahbass, work began on constructing a Historical Memory Space of the Resistance, with a covered area of 610 square meters and an estimated cost of 3.14 million dirhams. This project aims to raise awareness of the militant history of the national movement, the resistance, and the Liberation Army in their struggle for freedom and independence, while highlighting the chapters of national resistance history and the contributions of its key figures.
As part of the program contract between the State and the Guelmim-Oued Noun region for implementing priority projects of the 2021-2023 regional development program, the renovation and painting of the main street facades in Assa has begun.
Additionally, a number of school transportation vehicles were distributed in the province of Assa-Zag, aimed at reducing school dropout rates, facilitating access to educational services, and providing regular transportation between schools and local douars, while improving school attendance rates and educational standards in the province.
Regarding fire protection, the agreement to implement a project for the preparation of oases and combating recurrent fire risks in the communes of Assa and Taghjijt, with a budget of 17.45 million dirhams, has been launched. This project aims to rehabilitate oases affected by fires, speed up intervention efforts to prevent fire spread, and protect public and private property from natural disaster risks.
In the commune of Taghjijt, a total of 12.66 million dirhams has been allocated to benefit the oases of Tkmout, Tarkamaï, and Tinzert. The project includes the opening of 31 pathways stretching over 15.15 kilometers, the installation of six fire hydrants, 13 reservoirs with a 20-cubic-meter capacity, 13 signs, and two children’s play areas.
In Taghjijt’s oasis, equipment for palm tree maintenance was distributed to the “Imi Tanra” and “Al-Maaden” cooperatives, aiming to reduce fire risks and create jobs for cooperative members. This project had a cost of 295,185 dirhams.
Moreover, the installation of 63 kilometers of potable water distribution pipelines in the commune of Taghjijt has begun, with a budget exceeding 20 million dirhams. Additional civil engineering and distribution equipment works are valued at approximately 5 million dirhams, and the transformation of wells is estimated to cost around 1.5 million dirhams.
The construction of five local sports fields (type E) has also started in the communes of Assa and Taghjijt, with an estimated cost of 8.24 million dirhams. These fields, ranging in size from 1,800 to 2,000 square meters, will host football, basketball, handball, and volleyball.
As part of the program for reducing territorial and social disparities in rural areas, the construction of provincial road No. 1307, connecting “Takant” to “Fask” over a length of 18 km, has been launched, with an estimated budget of 30 million dirhams.
