The Guelmim-Oued Noun region has immense potential in the field of sea fishing, making this sector one of the essential pillars of the local economy. Its vast coasts offer rich and varied environments, favoring a great diversity of marine species available for fishing. The region has two major ports: the port of Tan-Tan and that of Sidi Ifni, which are among the main fishing centers at the national level. The port of Tan-Tan, one of the most important fishing ports in the kingdom and the third in southern Morocco, opens new prospects for economic growth thanks to the value of fish landings. Located in the commune of Oued-Eddahab, its main activity is fishing, covering deep-sea, coastal and artisanal fishing with a fleet of more than 650 units employing more than 12,400 sailors. It also has a new generation fish market, inaugurated in 2015, as well as a shipyard specializing in the repair of coastal boats, one of the first of its kind at the national level, with an investment of 3 billion dirhams.
The port of Sidi Ifni, for its part, has fishing as its main activity, constituting the main source of income for the city. It plays a key role in boosting the social and economic activities of the region, with a fish market, two ice factories, a shipyard, an industrial zone and a hydrocarbon distribution station.
