On the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the glorious Green March, the reception and meeting hall of the Guelmim-Oued Noun regional headquarters hosted, on Monday, November 6, the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between Ms. Mbarka Bouaida, President of the Regional Council, Mr. Khalid Aït Taleb, Minister of Health and Social Protection, and Mr. Mohamed Najem Abhai, Wali of the region, in the presence of the Regional Director of Health, as well as representatives from the National Agency for Public Equipment and the National Order of Doctors.
The signing of this agreement, which provides for a total amount of 443 million dirhams, is part of efforts to improve and ensure health and medical services for citizens, as well as to provide adequate infrastructure for health sector professionals, under a partnership contract between the State and the region.
This agreement includes 14 projects aimed at the integrated rehabilitation of the health sector, within the framework of the Regional Development Program 2022-2027 of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, through:
- Creation of local hospitals to strengthen health infrastructure in urban areas experiencing rapid population growth, with an estimated budget of 200 million dirhams.
- Enhancement of equipment in the region’s health centers, at a cost of 50 million dirhams, by acquiring medical and technical devices capable of improving care conditions in these centers, as well as providing scanners, magnetic resonance imaging machines, and other essential medical equipment.
- Mobilization of a 50 million dirham budget to help address the shortage of medical staff through contracts with qualified doctors and nurses, in addition to building functional housing for this staff, for an amount of 20 million dirhams.
- Creation and equipping of four spaces dedicated to youth health in the region’s four provinces, with a budget of 20 million dirhams. The goal is to improve the quality of local health services offered to youth.
- Creation and equipping of a center for addiction treatment, with a budget of 7 million dirhams, designed to support individuals suffering from drug addiction or various delinquent behaviors.
- Strengthening of medical caravans to improve access to primary healthcare and reduce geographic disparities that hinder citizens’ access to health services. The budget allocated for this project is 30 million dirhams.
- Development of healthcare services at the level of local municipalities by strengthening infrastructure, equipment, and human resources, with a budget of 10 million dirhams.
- Creation and equipping of two referral health centers for a budget of 14 million dirhams, aimed at providing comprehensive and holistic health services to women at different stages of their lives.
- Creation and equipping of a university medical center in Guelmim, at a cost of 3 million dirhams, dedicated to the health of university students.
- Creation of two emergency units in the communes of Tighjijit and Tioughza, for an amount of 6 million dirhams, aimed at guaranteeing medical care.
- Development and equipping of a psychiatry unit within the regional hospital of Guelmim, with a budget of 3 million dirhams.
- Renovation of the emergency department at the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Tan-Tan and increasing its capacity for an amount of 20 million dirhams.
- Creation and equipping of healthcare facilities in the communes of Mahbes, Ouinat El Henna, Anfek, and Tan-Tan, for a budget of 10 million dirhams.
This agreement could significantly transform the healthcare services in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region and address gaps in several medical specialties essential to citizens. In this regard, Ms. Mbarka Bouaida expressed her great satisfaction with the signing of this agreement, which reflects the efforts made to improve healthcare in the region. She emphasized the importance of these projects in achieving sustainable health development and improving the quality of medical services offered to the region’s population.
