Mbarka Bouaida, President of the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council, held a press conference on Monday, July 22, to highlight the regional development strategy and the projects scheduled across the various provinces of the region.
Bouaida began her speech by discussing the developmental achievements in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, especially with the upcoming celebrations of the Insurrection of the King and the People. She emphasized that the province of Guelmim, as the ‘gateway to the desert,’ represents an ideal space to bring the vision of the new development model closer and implement it in the southern provinces of the kingdom.
The president also mentioned the significant development transformation at the national level, which is based on strategic directions that pay special attention to the southern provinces. She stated that the regional planning scheme serves as a reference document reflecting the key guidelines for the four provinces of the region.
In response to the budget overruns allocated to the region’s dams, Bouaida explained that this was due to a special supplement, as the budget allocated to the dams was doubled because of major anomalies revealed by studies conducted after the preliminary studies, which helped clarify the figures.
Regarding conflicts within the council, Bouaida assured that this issue had been overcome and that the council had responded despite attempts at disruption, stressing the importance of joining the development train that the country is pursuing in various fields, while respecting the opposition’s right to freely express its positions.
In terms of reducing isolation and regional disparities, she noted that, within the framework of the contract between the State and the region, 37 projects had been planned across various sectors, although their progress varies, which affects the advancement of these projects.
She added that renewable energy projects are receiving great interest, with numerous companies investing in this sector. She confirmed that the region is working to transform the local economy to keep pace with development in various sectors, including renewable energy.
The press conference provided a platform for journalists to exchange ideas and ask questions, helping to provide accurate and reliable information to the local and national press and supporting efforts to promote sustainable development in the region.
