The Guelmim-Oued Noun region is the tenth of the twelve regions of Morocco, according to the new regional division of 2015. It occupies a central position in Morocco and opens onto the Atlantic Ocean, which gives it geographical diversity. It shares borders with Algeria, Mauritania and the Canary Islands, which gives it a strategic role as a link between the southern provinces and the rest of the national territory, while being a gateway to neighboring countries.
Its geographical and natural diversity, as well as its economic, tourist, cultural and ecological potential, make this region an open site for structuring and integrated projects. These projects are supervised by the Guelmim-Oued Noun Regional Council, as part of an ambitious vision aimed at promoting the region and making it a center of economic and tourist attraction, as a gateway to the Moroccan Sahara and a link between the North and the South of the Kingdom.
The Guelmim-Oued Noun region is made up of four provinces: Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Tan-Tan and Assa-Zag, spread over 53 municipalities, including 8 urban ones. It covers an area of 46,108 km² and has a population of 433,757 inhabitants.
